Three rules the product does not bend: local files, free access, optional AI.
01
Projects live on your machine. Open a folder, write, close the app — nothing is uploaded by default.
02
Kenny Writer is free. No sign-in, no subscription, no payment wall between you and the draft.
03
Write without models if you want. When you connect a provider, you choose what leaves the device.
AI and privacy
Kenny Writer is honest about what stays on the device and what leaves when you use cloud AI.
Project files, binder structure, goals, and API keys you store locally remain on your machine.
If you configure a cloud provider, the prompt and context you choose to send go to that provider — not to a Kenny account.
Local models and compatible endpoints can keep inference on-machine or on hardware you control.
Full wording lives on the Privacy page.
FAQ
Cost, files, formats, and offline AI — the questions authors ask first.
No. The desktop app is free. There is no account, subscription, or payment wall. Cloud AI providers you choose may bill you separately under their own terms.
On your computer. Kenny Writer opens a local project folder. Drafts are not uploaded to Kenny servers — there is no Kenny cloud for manuscripts.
Import and export cover TXT, Markdown, DOCX, EPUB, and PDF. Binder export can produce EPUB or PDF for sharing a finished manuscript.
Yes, when you run a local or compatible on-machine endpoint. Cloud providers need a network connection. Writing, binder, and timeline work without any AI configured.
